The beginning

In the early summer of 2008, I was given a 1956 Glasspar Sport Lido boat. It is one of the first mass produced fiberglass boats, and I now have the privilege to own one. Unfortunately the boat was in rough shape from bow to stern.
The boat had a 1956 Johnson 35 hp engine on it. That engine is HUGE. It also had the disadvantage of not working. So I took it to my outboard mechanic. Within two days he called me back, stating that the value of the engine was less than the cost of the parts and labor. So, I have the engine, but will not be fixing it for the boat.
This Glasspar has some very interesting lights and accessories, all of which need to be polished or re-chromed all together
To understand the scope of this project, one must look at the pictures. Almost every single one from the early summer shows what bad shape the boat is in. The most obvious defect is the awful black paint that has faded into a somewhat mediocre dark color. After taking a closer look I noticed that the whole deck (top side, the pictures show what i mean) had and has lots and lots of spider cracks. A LOT of spider cracks. Another very obvious problem was inside the boat. The fiberglass covering the "floor" was disgusting. The fiberglass had very obvious signs of the wear and tear of 53 years of sunlight, salt, and water. It needed to be replaced.
These were my first impressions about my pet project. However, more posts are on the way.
